EXAMPLES OF EDITING INSTRUCTIONS

IF YOUR MUSIC IS ON CD:

List CD TITLE, TRACK TITLE and TRACK NUMBER first, then instructions underneath.

It is easiest if you stick a “post-it” note on each CD case with your written instructions for that CD.

SOME EXAMPLES OF HOW TO WRITE INSTRUCTIONS:

(The above means just copy and master the entire track as is - no edits)

(The above example means start at the beginning, play till 1:13, cut to 1:43 and pick it up there, play till 2:06, cut to 3:14 and pick it up there and continue on until the end of the track)

(This example is the same as the previous one only instead of starting at the very beginning of the track, we are starting 16 seconds in)

(In this example we will do a fade starting at 3:30, meaning the song will actually end around 3:45)

FADES CAN BE AS LONG AS YOU WANT, HOWEVER PLEASE NOTE THAT GOOD SOUNDING FADES USUALLY REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 15 SECONDS.

(In this example we will “create” a new ending at 3:30, providing that there is a spot there that can be made into an ending that makes sense musically. Reverb is usually added to make the ending sound natural)

Remove vocals from 1:50 - 1:59 (“drinkin’ whisky all night long”)

(In this example we will attempt to remove the words listed. Vocals can’t always be removed electronically, it depends on the way it was originally recorded. if we can’t remove them electronically, we will try and use other means of cutting and pasting other music in place of the questionable vocal section.)

Music can also be sped up or slowed down electronically without changing the pitch of the music itself.

IF YOUR MUSIC IS ON A CASSETTE TAPE OR VINYL RECORDING:

Tell us where the edit points are by using as many reference points as you can. Beat counts, phrasing cues (i.e. jump to last chorus) and cue words in the vocals are all helpful. Please note that tape player “counter” numbers are NOT accurate and cannot be used.

IF WE ARE MAKING A CD FOR YOU:

Tell us what you would like the TITLE of your CD to be. The track names and times will be listed on the inside cover.
Include a separate list informing us of the song order for your CD.
Gaps between songs are normally 2 seconds. To change gaps let us know what you need. All tracks will start instantly, there will be no pause time once you hit "play".
